about
The verses and chorus of "Two Weeks On The Ocean" were written two weeks after my younger brother Julian Brennan, a member of the Marine Corps, was killed in action in Afghanistan. The bridge was written six months later, on his 26th birthday.
lyrics
I am floating on the ocean
I am floating on the sea
I’ve been adrift for two long weeks
I wonder where the current's taking me
I guess I’ll see when the horizons change
and land comes into view
When nighttime comes I’ll fall asleep
and I will dream of you
I’ll dream of you when you were dancing
I’ll dream of you when you were young
You’ve escaped the years
from now until I’m done
But you will always be my brother
And I will always hold your light
I will miss you in the daytime
But I will see you in the night
I’ll see you in the night
Sometimes this wind it picks up
Sometimes it settles down
I know I’m going to make it through
You wouldn’t want me to drown
So when the gales are blowing
and the waves are rocking me
I’ll summon up your spirit
from the depths of my memory
And I’ll remember you were dancing …
You’d be twenty six today
If you hadn’t gone away
And I’d be calling on the phone
To tell you you are loved
and that you’ll always have a home
But instead I’ll light a candle in your name
And try to live a life
that makes me proud and not ashamed
What else can a lonely brother do
But try to point his compass
towards the north that his heart says is true
Oh brother, I’m missing you
But I’ll remember you were dancing …
I’ll see you in the night
I’ll see you in the night
I’ll be waiting for you
